he federal government is offering a $300 tax credit for homeowners who installed a qualified air-source heat pump in their principal residence between January 1, 2011 and December 31, 2016. Ductless mini-split systems with an HSPF of at least 8.5, a EER of at least 12.5 and a SEER of at least 15 qualify for the rebate. The same rebate is available for central air conditioning systems with ann HSPF of at least 8, a EER of at least 12 and a SEER of at least 14.
The tax credit is available only to existing, owner-occupied residential construction. Newly constructed homes and residential rental properties do not qualify. You can check the AHRI database for a list of qualified products. To claim your tax credit, file Form 5695 with your tax return.
You can still take advantage of this credit by installing a qualifying air source heat pump in your primary residence before December 31, 2016.
